MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Russian authorities will ignore opinions of other countries, including the United States, on that matter, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.
“This is an issue that is exclusively in the Russian jurisdiction and in this case we don’t believe it possible or necessary to listen to the opinion of other countries. This is a domestic affair in the Russian Federation,” Peskov told journalists.
On Thursday, the US State Department called on Russia to reverse the Russian Justice Ministry’s decision to define the Mejlis an extremist organization, arguing that this "contravenes basic democratic principles and is "an important independent voice in preserving their culture and protecting them from discrimination.”
