CHISINAU (Sputnik) – A criminal case was initiated as a result of violent unrest in Chisinau’s center, a source in Moldova’s General Inspectorate of Police said Sunday.
At least four police officers were hospitalized after clashes with anti-government protesters, according to police spokeswoman Tamara Procopii.
"As a result of the unrest in the center of Chisinau, police opened a criminal case. At the moment, operational groups are carrying out the investigation to establish all the circumstances of the incident," the source told RIA Novosti.
Chisinau has been swept in rallies since September 2015, when the coalition of opposition forces demanded the resignation of the Moldovan president, the prime minister and the chief prosecutor, as well as prompt action to tackle corruption.
