Blitzer Railgun Successfully Tested for US Army at Land War Exercise

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Army's Fires Center of Excellence annual Maneuver and Fires Integration Experiment (MFIX) test firings under real world conditions at different locales allowed the company to gather critical data necessary to improve the system's efficiency to meet future mobility requirements, Bucci pointed out.

"[General Atomics] announced… that its Blitzer electromagnetic railgun system was demonstrated at the US Army's Fires Center of Excellence annual Maneuver and Fires Integration Experiment (MFIX), April 4-21 at Fort. Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma," the release stated on Monday.

There were eleven firings of the Blitzer railgun during the MFIX event, all at a target with a range greater than previous Blitzer firings, General Atomics noted.

"After the successful test firings of our guidance electronics units at Dugway Proving Ground in Utah one month ago, we disassembled the Blitzer railgun system and transported it to Fort Sill where it was set-up and fired during the MFIX event," General Atomics-Electromagnetic Systems Vice President Nick Bucci stated in the release.

At the completion of MFIX, the railgun system will be transported back to Dugway Proving Ground in the US state of Utah for further testing later this year, General Atomics added.
