Georgia remains devoted to continue on the path of acquiring NATO membership and developing deeper cooperation in case its membership is not confirmed at the upcoming summit in Warsaw, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Georgia’s membership in NATO will be addressed at the alliance’s June summit in Warsaw, and entry will depend on each of the current 28 alliance members agreeing to Georgia’s accession.

"Georgia remains committed to NATO aspirations… We are very consistent on our European integration path and very consistent with our NATO aspirations," Kvirikashvili said in a speech to the US Institute of Peace in Washington, DC.

Even if Georgia is not welcomed as a formal member, Kvirikashvili noted that Warsaw is "an important summit to mark the progress toward NATO."

Georgia is willing to increase cooperation outside of official membership including participating in "the Black Sea security platform," Kvirikashvili added.

Earlier in April, NATO leaders proposed a Black Sea fleet coordinated between alliance members Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania with participation by Georgia and Ukraine.
