TOKYO (Sputnik) — A series of earthquakes hit Japan's Kumamoto region, killing at least 49 people and forcing tens of thousands of residents to evacuate the area.
"We would like to take all possible measures to ensure that [victims] could move to areas more favorable for life as long as the weather is not so hot," the minister said, as quoted by the Kyodo news agency.
In addition, victims will be accommodated in 9,000 apartments in public housing blocs throughout the country, and some 1,500 private houses will be rented for them in the Kumamoto Prefecture.
