The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has sent requests to Panama concerning the Mossack Fonseca offshore leak.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Prosecutor General's Office is investigating the so-called Panama Papers, Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika said Wednesday.

"We are carrying out such an investigation. We have already sent requests to our colleagues in Panama," Chaika told Russian senators.

According to Chaika, the prosecutor's office has no doubts that the publication of the Panama Papers is a thoroughly planned action, coordinated by a Western state.

"The investigation results will be both delivered to the country's [Russia] leadership and published," the prosecutor general added.

Busted! CIA and Co. Allegedly Used Mossack Fonseca to Hide Activities
Earlier in April, German Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper exposed alleged involvement of a number of former and current world leaders in tax haven schemes using the information obtained in materials allegedly leaked from Mossack Fonseca.

Mossack Fonseca responded to the leak by refusing to validate the information and accused reporters of gaining unauthorized access to its proprietary documents. It warned that using unlawfully-obtained data was a crime that it would not hesitate to punish by legal means.
