MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The minister stressed that it is time for the international community to unite in fight against terrorism by creating broad anti-terrorist front.
"From the moment of our previous meeting, the world has not become more stable. Despite the joint effots of Russia and other States, the ituation in a number of regions is far from stability," Shoigu said at the fifth Moscow Conference on International Security.
He added that the the countries fighiting with terrorism should act in cooperation with the states, who bear the burden of struggle with terrorism and extremism.
“I’m convinced that all of the professionals gathered here have enough experience, knowledge, and wisdom to develop concrete steps in strengthening international and regional stability,” Shoigu said.
"It is obvious that it is time for the international community to unite. This could and should be done on the basis of the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin to create broad anti-terrorist coalition," Shoigu said.
According to the minister, international terrorists are trying to create a new platform in Asia-Pacific and Central Asian regionsy.
The Russian defense minister also warned that any attempts to play with terrorists or even to arm them should be classified as a crime.
"I would like to underline the fact that any attempts to play with terrorists, to divide them on good and bad ones, and moreover to arm them for reaching selfish political goals are not only short-sighted, but criminal," Shoigu stressed.
One of Russia’s common goals, as well as for its allies, is not to allow the expansion of terrorism into the Commonwealth of Independent States, according to the minister.
“One of the common goals is not to allow the expansion of terrorism into CIS countries. We are paying particular attention in this context of the alarming situation in Central Asia and on the development of negative influence from terrorist threats from Afghanistan,” Shoigu said.
