The International Syria Support Group (ISSG) should meet in the near future to discuss progress in the Geneva peace talks, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria Staffan de Mistura told the UN Security Council in a video briefing.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — However, substantial gaps remain between the parties´ respective visions of the transition to a new government in Syria, and further negotiations would be required to ensure a credible and inclusive transition process, de Mistura cautioned.

"The Syrian parties have now accepted the need for a political transition that will be overseen by new and inclusive transitional governance that replaces the present governance arrangements in Syria," de Mistura stated on Wednesday.
