MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura closed April round of talks and summarized commonalities between the parties' positions.
"I think this round was good and I feel hope. I think good steps have been built in this round. Now we have the new vision of the opposition expressed, the one which is 'in the middle,' and it's good. They began to listen to us, because we are those who are inside Syria and who have a vision 'in the middle'," Krydee said.
In previous round of talks, the Hmeymim group was disregarded by the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) delegation formed following opposition talks in Riyadh, which claimed to have the exclusive right to represent the Syrian people at the talks.
During the April round, HNC walked out over the continuous fighting in Syria and lack of progress on humanitarian issues. Other delegations stayed in Geneva and continued talks, seizing the opportunity to promote their agenda.
