BERLIN (Sputnik) – Germany warns that such escalations of violence in Syria could have the potential to hamper the peace negotiations in Geneva, Steffen Seibert said Friday.
“These moves, the clashes which broke out again in Aleppo, as well as in other hotspots, put the ceasefire in danger and ruin the Geneva negotiation process, which required so much effort to be launched. These developments should be prevented,” Seibert told journalists in Berlin.
“We strongly condemn the deliberate destruction of this hospital in Aleppo and the murder of so many civilians, including children. The information in our disposal indicates that this attack must have been committed by troops of [Syrian President Bashar] Assad,” Seibert said.
Fighting in Syria has escalated despite the ongoing ceasefire in place since February 27. Earlier on Friday, sources said that at least 25 people had been killed and another 40 injured after a mosque in Aleppo was shelled by militants.
