BERLIN (Sputnik) — About 50 people gathered on Monday in the central part of Berlin to participate in a rally commemorating the second anniversary of the deadly fire in the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.
Representatives of human rights groups from both Germany and Ukraine, as well as Odesa's residents and journalists gathered near the Brandenburg Gate.
The demonstrators called for a full-scale investigation into the arson and condemned the Monday decision of Odesa's authorities to block the access to the tragedy site for the people, who wanted to commemorate the victims due to an alleged bomb threat.
On May 2, 2014, pro-Kiev radicals blocked anti-government protesters in Odesa's House of Trade Unions and set the building on fire by hurling Molotov cocktails inside.
According to the official data, 48 people died and more than 250 were injured in the fire. No perpetrators have been brought to justice.
