MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the BBC, Galvez, otherwise known as Caracol or The Snail, was arrested on Saturday, and was deported to Peru 24 hours later. He did not have proper immigration papers on him.
Galvez is accused of running a powerful cocaine-trafficking gang which has been tied to many murders in the region, the media outlet reported.
"I have the right to the presumption of innocence. They didn't find anything [drugs] with me," Galvez told reporters as he was getting on a Peruvian Air Force plane, as quoted by the British broadcaster.
Peruvian authorities have compared Gaves Calle to infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, referring to him as "the new El Chapo."
