GENEVA (Sputnik) — US State Secretary John Kerry said Monday he wanted to bring up the issue of a nationwide Syrian ceasefire during a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov later in the day.
"I will be talking later today by telephone with Foreign Minister Lavrov and Staffan de Mistura will be traveling to Moscow tomorrow," Kerry told reporters in Geneva.
"We are trying in the next hours to see if it is possible to reach agreement that will not just re-implement the cessation but create a path forward for the cessation to hold so that there is not just one day of silence, two days of silence but an ongoing process that relieves people of Syria from this devastation," he stressed.
Kerry arrived in Geneva on Sunday to hold talks on the Syrian peace with de Mistura, as well as Jordanian and Saudi senior diplomats. He is also set to speak with the Russian foreign minister on the phone later on Monday.
