MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Taxi drivers blocked traffic on a part of the Delhi-Gurgaon highway in protest against India's Supreme Court ruling to ban diesel cabs in the capital, local media reported Monday citing police.
"The taxi drivers on Monday morning blocked both the carraigeways on Rajokri flyover near the old Delhi toll booth on Gurgaon to Dhaula Kuan road," a traffic police official said as quoted by the Indo-Asian News Service.
The deadline for the taxis' transition from diesel to a cleaner type of fuel — compressed natural gas (CNG) — expired on May 1 after being extended twice.
On Saturday, the court refused to provide drivers with additional time to switch to CNG.
