MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A personnel member of the US-led military coalition forces was killed by enemy fire in northern Iraq, the mission said in an official statement released Tuesday.
"On May 3, 2016, a Coalition service member was killed in northern Iraq as a result of enemy fire," the statement reads.
The operation command refused to identify the victim or their nationality, citing existing rules. The identification will be up to the relevant national authorities, it said.
US-led international forces have been on a mission to degrade and defeat Islamists in Syria and Iraq since summer 2014 with airstrikes. The operation, codenamed Inherent Resolve, involves more than 60 partners.
