MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The school officials insist that new policy was not religiously-motivated.
“Free and unhindered communication requires that we can see each other’s faces. Therefore it is not allowed to cover the eyes, nose or mouth while participating in lessons,” the school wrote on its Facebook page on Wednesday, as quoted by The Local Denmark.
VUC Lyngby changed its rules concerning the issue last fall. However, the public only found about the decision this week after the post on the school’s Facebook page. According to the media, six female pupils were told that they could only attend classes if they removed their niqabs. Pupils have been offered the opportunity of e-learning should they refuse to comply with the new rule.
