ANKARA (Sputnik) – The clashes that broke out last summer between the Turkish government and the PKK, an organization in favor of Kurdish independence that Ankara considers to be a terrorist group, have reportedly claimed the lives of over 350 soldiers and police officers and over 5,000 Kurdish insurgents.
“On May 4, in the Derik district of the Mardin province an explosive-laden vehicle was detonated by members of the terrorist organization PKK near a gendarmery station where the military dormitory is also situated. One soldier was killed, four others were injured. A member of a soldier’s family was also wounded,” the Turkish General Staff said in the document.
