CHISINAU(Sputnik) — A total of 58 pieces of military hardware entered Moldova from Romania in the town of Sculeni and took the M-14 motorway to Negreshti on Tuesday. Besides participation in the drills that will last until May 20 and include 198 US soldiers as well as 165 Moldovan servicemen, the US vehicles are due to be showed in the Moldovan capital Chisinau during the Victory’s Day celebrations on May 9.
“The American ‘cavalry’ arrived at the destination point [Negreshti],” the Ministry posted on its Facebook page referring to the 2nd US Cavalry Regiment deployed for the exercises.
Presence of the US military hardware caused public outrage in Moldova with members of the Party of Socialists and social activists trying to block the vehicles at the Moldovan-Romanian border. The Socialists’ leader Igor Dodon vowed to hold them again on the Chisinau’s fringes if the vehicles are going to be deployed in the Modovan capital on May 9.
