WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A member of the US-led coalition against Daesh was killed in Iraq from a non-combat injury, Combined Joint Task Force — Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a statement.
"A Combined Joint Task Force — Operation Inherent Resolve service member died as a result of a non-battle related injury in Iraq today," the Department of Defense stated on Friday.
The statement did not immediately identify the nationality of the service member killed.
Per CJTF-OIR policy, casualty identification procedures are deferred to relevant national authorities.
On Tuesday, a US Navy Seal was killed in combat in Iraq when Daesh fighters breached a Kurdish Peshmerga defense line near the Iraqi town of Tal Asqaf. The Seal was the third US service member to be killed in combat since the coalition operations began in the summer of 2014.
