PYONGYANG (Sputnik) – The 7th Congress of Workers’ Party has started in North Korea’s capital, which is the first such meeting since 1980, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports.
Foreign media representatives were not allowed into the April 25 House of Culture building where the meeting is being held on Friday, the correspondent said.
A source in North Korea’s Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Thursday that about 180 foreign journalists had arrived in Pyongyang. However, they were only allowed to make reports and talk to passers-by across the street from the April 25 House of Culture on Friday.
The venue of North Korea’s 7th Congress of Workers’ Party was announced only one day before the meeting. The April 25 House of Culture also hosted the previous party congress, held in 1980.
