"From the Russian point of view, the prospect of placing the new radar in Norway as part of the missile defense system is another example of very serious evil intentions of the United States against Russia," Postol said.
The expert argued that the Norwegian government should seriously reconsider these plans. According to him, they might pose a serious danger to the country's security as Norway might be drawn into the conflict between the superpowers.
"I believe that the deployment of the new radar in Norway is a result of mistaken American logic," Postol stated. "It's only a matter of time when the current arms escalation will result — in one form or another — in a serious confrontation between Russia and China and the US and NATO," the professor said.
Construction works on the new radar are expected to start in summer 2016 and last for three years, according to Norwegian authorities.
"The tasks of the radar will be to follow objects in space, monitor Norwegian interests in the north and benefit national development," Norway Today wrote.
