"We have expressed our hope that the intra-Syria talks resume as soon as possible. In order to return to the negotiations table, it is necessary that the ceasefire violations stop immediately and that progress is achieved in deliveries of humanitarian aid to civilians on the ground," Ayrault told a press conference.
Earlier in the day, Kerry and Lavrov held a phone conversation in which they discussed the Syria crisis and the US and Russian efforts on resolving the conflict in Syria, as co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG).
"Our mutual goal is their implementation," the French minister said.
The Friends of Syria format is a group of countries and international organizations that convene to discuss the topic of Syrian crisis outside the UN Security Council. France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Jordan, Qatar, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and the United States are among the members of the group. The opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) and EU diplomacy chief Federica Mogherini also participated in the group’s meeting which took place in Paris earlier in the day.
