MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The TRAX train derailed while making a turn coming into one of its stations, Utah Transit Authority (UTA) spokesman Remi Barron said as cited by the Fox News local affiliate late Sunday.
UTA said on its Twitter account the track extending to stations beyond where the incident would be shut down, adding that shuttle service would be provided to passengers.
Four out of the 14 passengers aboard were hospitalized, two of them listed in serious conditions, South Salt Lake Police Department spokesman Gary Keller said.
Keller posited that "speed may be a factor" in the train going off the tracks, although it was not immediately clear what speed the TRAX light rail was travelling at.
One of the passengers, Michael Jereb, told the broadcaster the train was travelling "way too fast… like it was going to go straight."
