Minister of the Interior of Poland Mariusz Blaszczak defended the country's new anti-terrorism law and promised that the security services would not abuse their power to wiretap civilians.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Earlier in the day, Poland adopted a law that provides unrestricted control over digital communication of foreign nationals, access to confidential databases, mandatory sharing of personal data with mobile network operators, and border shutdown in case of terror threat among other measures.

"[You] will not be wiretapped, I assure you. We live in a time when everyone who threatens the security is subject to monitoring by the secret services… Look, we are near a school and there are probably cameras on the street that record the movement of people. When [we] enter a bus, there will also be cameras. However, these cameras helped, for example, to identify the killers, terrorists, suicide bombers at the airport in Brussels, helped by identifying these people to reach their accomplices, helped special services to identify an entire terrorist network," Blaszczak told Telewizja Polska.

Blaschak dismissed the opposition's criticism of the anti-terror legislation as "totally stupid," adding that there could be no negotiations with terrorists.

The new anti-terror law was tabled by Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Blaszczak and intelligence supervisor Mariusz Kaminski who hope that the law will take effect before June 1.
