Earlier in the day, Turkish media reported that the meeting, at which the prospects for the liberalization of the visa regime between Turkey and the European Union were due to be assessed, had been postponed.
"There was a high-level dialogue meeting scheduled for later this week, but this meeting has been rescheduled to [a] later date that still needs to be agreed," Kocijancic told reporters.
In mid-March, the European Union and Ankara agreed on a deal under which Turkey pledged to take back all undocumented migrants who arrive in the European Union through its territory in exchange for Syrian refugees accommodated in Turkey, on a one-for-one basis. In return, the 28-member bloc pledged to accelerate the Turkish EU accession bid and introduce a visa-free regime between Turkey and the Schengen area.
The European Commission recommended last week that the European Parliament vote on visa-free regime for Turkey once the country had met all 72 required benchmarks. A decision on the matter is expected in June.
