India has purchased 12 South Korean Phantom 4 UAVs for Rs 150,000 (US $2,250) each. They fly as high as 1 km and remain in the air for over 30 minutes. The drones are equipped with high definition 18.2 megapixel cameras and night vision capability to track activities and movements from 5 km away.

About 20 policemen have been trained to operate the UAVs in six districts of the state. According to a police spokesman, these drones have already helped to detect illegal sand mining along the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border.
