Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on the country's accession to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Poroshenko's website said in a statement on Tuesday.

KIEV (Sputnik) — IRENA is an intergovernmental organization created in 2009 to support countries in the transition to a sustainable energy and promote the widespread adoption and use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy.

IMF European Department Assures Kiev of Support in Reforms Implementation

"To declare Ukraine's accession to the Charter of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) appropriate," the statement reads.

Ukraine's participation in the organization will allow Kiev to receive practical expert advise on improving the regulatory framework in the field of renewable energy and to effectively cooperate with the developed countries in the area of the industry development.
