White House spokesman Josh Earnest insisted that Obama's visit to Hiroshima shouldn't be interpreted as apology.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Barack Obama's upcoming visit to the Japanese city of Hiroshima should not be viewed as an apology, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters on Tuesday.

"If people do interpret it that way, they will be interpreting it wrongly," Earnest stated when asked if the visit could be interpreted as US apology to Japan.

Last August, Japan marked 70 years since a US B-29 bomber dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, killing about 140,000 people. A second strike three days later killed 70,000 people in the city of Nagasaki, causing Japan to surrender.
