MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia will perfect its military equipment in order to stay ahead of the US air defense systems as long as US efforts continue in strengthening and deploying new installments in Europe, Russia’s commander for the Strategic Missile Forces said Tuesday.
The effectiveness of Russia’s heavy intercontinental ballistic missiles will be four times better than the current light ICBMs by 2021.
“Undoubtedly work on perfecting military means in order to stay ahead of is currently continuing with our air defense systems. This is due to the fact that the United States has not stopped where it is and continues to perfect its air defense systems, including their deployment in Europe,” Lt.-Gen. Sergei Karakayev said.
The European segment of the US air defense systems present only a limited threat for the Russian Strategic Missile Forces, but does not critically lower military capabilities.
“Threats from the [US] air defense systems to the RSMF are of a limited character and currently don’t pose any critical lowering of the RSMF’s military capabilities,” Karakayev said.
He added that the future intercontinental ballistic missiles would make it possible to not only deliver warheads to their targets according to energy efficient and planned trajectories, but can deliver strikes from different directions, which would force the opposing side to provide an all-around air defense system.
