MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Nizami was hanged at the central jail of the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka just after midnight local time on Wednesday (18:01 GMT Tuesday) for genocide, rape and torture, Al Jazeera broadcaster said.
The leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami Islamic political party was sentenced to death in October 2014. On Thursday, the Bangladesh Supreme Court rejected Nizami's plea to review the capital punishment.
A civil war broke out in Pakistan in 1971, which was divided in two parts at the time, after West Pakistan launched a military operation in East Pakistan that was seeking independence.
