YEREVAN (Sputnik) – During the meeting, the sides reportedly stressed the need to investigate ceasefire violations and emphasized that there is no alternative to a peaceful settlement in Karabakh conflict.
"Sargsyan presented his position in the context of the escalation of the situation due to the destructive and aggressive behavior of Azerbaijan, noting the reasons why this country hinders the negotiation process on Karabakh," the statement, published Tuesday, said.
A resurgence in fighting over the Azerbaijani breakaway region, mostly populated by Armenians, has resulted in deaths of scores of soldiers on both sides in early April, prompting the countries to agree on a truce on April 5. However, parties to the conflict have since blamed each other for violations of the ceasefire.
