MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia has an average murder clearance rate of 89 percent which is about 21 percent higher than in the United States, Russia's Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said Friday.
"Our murder clearance rate is about 89 percent, in the United States the murder clearance rate is at the 68-percent level," Markin said during a lecture at Moscow State University.
He said that only 0.4 percent of cases sent to courts by the Investigative Committee result in acquittals.
He added that in 2015 the Investigative Committee received 40,000 reports about corruption crimes. He added that since 2011, six governors and 12 lawmakers have been brought to justice for criminal offenses.
