BUENOS AIRES (Sputnik) – The upper house of the Brazilian parliament voted 55-22 on Thursday to start impeachment proceedings against Rousseff after she was accused of concealing the country’s budget deficit ahead of the 2014 re-election.
The presidents of Bolivia and Venezuela, among others, supported Brazil's leader while Argentine President Mauricio Macri expressed his respect for the ongoing impeachment process.
"Macri’s government’s reaction amid this process was very poor… This shows that Macri has a different outlook on integration policy than the previous government," Rossi, a former defense minister, said.
Macri’s policies are "less Unasur, less Mercosur, less CELAC, less BRICS" and "more the United States, more Europe, more Transpacific, more Pacific Alliance and more free trade agreements," according to Rossi.
Rousseff, who called the impeachment process "a coup," has been suspended from office for 180 days, pending trial. Vice President Michel Temer has assumed presidency during that period.
