BAKU (Sputnik) — The resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should rest upon international law and Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov said Sunday.
"At meetings with my colleagues from Turkey and Georgia, it was noted that the Karabakh conflict must be resolved peacefully, on the basis of international norms and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," Hasanov told a joint press conference after a trilateral meeting with his counterparts.
The violence in Nagorno-Karabakh, an Azerbaijani breakaway region with a predominantly Armenian population, escalated on April 2. Baku and Yerevan have accused each other of provoking hostilities that led to multiple deaths on each side.
On April 5, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on a ceasefire, but have since accused each other of multiple violations.
