"The government of Vietnam welcomes the fact that the president of Russia has already signed the law ratifying the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Vietnam. I think that the agreement will become fully operational this June and I am fully confident that the implementation of this agreement will create a surge in our relations," Vietnam's prime minister told reporters after meeting his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev.
Phuc is visiting Russia to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit in the resort city of Sochi scheduled for May 19.
The Eurasian Economic Union is an international organization for economic integration launched in 2015, with Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia as its member states.
Last May, Vietnam and EEU signed a free trade agreement. More than 40 countries and international organizations, including China, India, Egypt and Thailand have expressed their intention to conclude similar agreements with the Eurasian Economic Union.
