"We are planning to present the new MC-21 plane on June 8. This will be a festive event, with the press and key figures invited," the source told RIA Novosti.
The aircraft has yet to be fully fitted before test flights can be conducted, the source added.
In November, Russia tested a new PD-14 next-generation turbofan aircraft engine, the country's first new aircraft engine test in almost 30 years. The MC-21 is one of the aircraft to be equipped with the engine, alongside the Sukhoi Superjet-100 and the Mi-26 helicopter.
In early 2016, Vladislav Masalov, the vice president of Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, of which MC-21 manufacturer Irkut Corporation is a subsidiary, said that the aircraft's maiden flight would take place in December 2016.
The Irkutsk Aviation Plant plans to produce three versions of the MC-21, including the 150-seat MC-21-200, the 180-seat MC-21-300 and the 212-seat MC-21-400. A number of domestic and international orders have been placed for the aircraft.
The Russian flag carrier Aeroflot has ordered 50 planes, while Egypt's KATO Investment company ordered six planes during the Dubai Airshow 2015. In late April, Irkut Corporation and Air Tanzania signed a memorandum of understanding, expressing mutual interest in the Tanzanian flag carrier acquiring Russian MC-21 airliners.
