The Russian authorities will not increase the tax burden on the population before 2018 presidential elections and after them.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — No discussions are currently being held on alleged income tax increases after presidential elections in Russia are held in 2018, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.

“There are no decisions in regard to this and there is no dominant point of view on this, so it’s impossible to talk about this. “It’s also clear that there are no current programs reviewing this either. Hardly anyone can forecast now what the economic situation in 2018 will be after presidential elections,” Peskov told journalists in response to publications in the western media that Russia plans to increase its personal income tax rate in 2018.

Last month, Russian Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev said the country’s economy might see renewed growth in 2016.
