Revise Eurovision Results! European Broadcasting Union to Discuss Petition

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is going to examine the petition demanding to revise the results of 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, EBU spokesman Paul Jordan said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Over 200,000 people signed the petition on Change.org for the EBU and Eurovision Song Contest demanding to revise the results of the song contest held in Stockholm on Saturday.

“We know about the petition, we will look into it today, and the answer will be published later,” Jordan told RIA Novosti.

He also added that the results of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest are unlikely to be changed.

People who signed it are dissatisfied with the most significant changes in the voting system since 1975 with each country now allocating points from two separate streams: a national jury and the general public, who voted by telephone. The disparity between the televoting and professional jury results caused many to question whether the Eurovision contest is politically biased.

Russian singer Sergei Lazarev got the largest number of televotes while the Australian entry was the favorite among the professional juries. However, the song "1944" performed by Ukrainian singer Jamala ended up winning the contest when the two voting counts were combined.
