STOCKHOLM (Sputnik) — Ukraine's Jamala is and will remain the winner of this year's Eurovision Song Contest, despite over 300,000 people signing an online petition calling for the results to be revised, the European Broadcasting Union said Tuesday.
"Ukraine is, and will remain, the winner of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. Whether you agree or disagree, we call upon those who signed this petition to embrace the result, valid in accordance with the rules, and to continue a constructive dialogue about how to further strengthen and improve the Eurovision Song Contest," Eurovision communications manager Paul Jordan said in a statement.
People who signed the petition are dissatisfied with the most significant changes in the new voting system. The divide between the televoting and professional jury results caused many to question whether the Eurovision contest is politically biased.
