MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The next round of intra-Syrian reconciliation talks in Geneva may be held in the beginning of July, but UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura will propose the exact dates, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Thursday.
“I think that Staffan de Mistura is collecting his thoughts and will propose a date for renewing the negotiations. Of course, we were talking about May right after the ISSG [International Syria Support Group] at the end of May,” Bogdanov told journalists.
He noted however that Ramadan would soon be celebrated and said that there were rumors that the meeting may be postponed to a later date after the festivities.
“I heard discussions that Ramadan is beginning and perhaps there’s an understanding to wait until the end of Ramadan, which would be around the beginning of July, but that all depends on de Mistura and his team now,” Bogdanov said.
Bogdanov also disagreed with the opinion that the intra-Syrian talks have utterly failed.
“No way. Life goes on. What do you mean there are no results? There is a very solid document on the results,” Bogdanov added.
