"In light of EgyptAir flight MS804, which disappeared over the Mediterranean Sea, we have heightened our security posture and enhanced our counter-terrorism security measures at our LAWA [Los Angeles World Airports] airports," the airport police stated on Thursday.
The police added that they constantly assess domestic and international intelligence and events, and review security measures in place.
Earlier in the day, EgyptAir flight MS804 with 66 people on board disappeared from radar screens while flying ten miles into Egyptian airspace. The EgyptAir flight originated from the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, France and was heading to Cairo, Egypt.
US government officials have previously told local media outlets that early signs suggest that a bomb was responsible for taking down a missing plane.
