“On Monday [at EU Foreign Affairs Council] the issue will not be discussed. But the European position on Crimea is clear. Despite the fact that there will be a formal decision making process, the situation in Crimea has not changed, the Ukrainian sovereignty over Crimea has not been restored… the sanctions should remain in force,” the source said.
Relations between Russian and the Western countries deteriorated in 2014 after eruption of the Ukrainian crisis and the Crimean reunification with Russia.
The United States, The European Union as well as some other countries introduced personal and economic sanctions against Russia and Crimea in particular. Russia responded with introducing an embargo on food import from the countries that imposed sanctions on Russia.
