MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Liverpool John Lennon Airport southeast of the British city was partly evacuated due to a technical error with one of its scanning machines, the airport said on its website Friday.
"Due to a technical problem with one of the Airport’s passenger scanning machines, all passengers have been removed from the Departure Lounge and are currently in the process of being rescreened," the airport said in an advisory note.
It added that passenger safety was not under threat.
Media outlets cited the Merseyside police as saying the evacuation was due to a "customer service issue" and not related to security.
Security concerns were on high alert in the wake of the disappearance of an EgyptAir passenger plane over the Mediterranean early Thursday.
