MOSCOW (Sputnik) — NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said ahead of the closed-door ministerial session on Friday that the alliance agreed to hold a NATO-Russia Council before the Warsaw summit.
"We are now looking into a possibility of holding a new meeting on the NATO-Russia Council. It’s a broad agreement among NATO allies to try to have a new meeting, but of course we have to consult with Russia, to agree on the agenda," Stoltenberg said.
Since 2014 the alliance has been building up its military presence in Europe – especially in Eastern European countries neighboring to Russia, using alleged Russian interference in Ukraine's internal crisis as a pretext.
Russia has many times warned the NATO that its provocative actions may harm regional and global stability.
