MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The proposed deal aims to strengthen the international legal basis for cooperation between Russia and Panama on the extradition of criminals.
"The whole point is to provide the opportunity of mutual extradition of persons for criminal prosecution or execution of sentences for both of our countries," Deputy Justice Minister Maxim Travnikov said, speaking before the lawmakers.
According to the proposed deal, each party has to extradite any person that the other party seeks to prosecute for an extraditable offense, which is a crime that is punished with at least one-year imprisonment, according to both countries’ laws. The bill was backed unanimously.
