WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders are getting ready to hold large demonstrations at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this July, local media reported.
"Philadelphia has approved four demonstration permits in support of Sen. Bernie Sanders… including a large rally planned near the convention’s epicenter," The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
The report noted that while the city expects 30,000 people to turn out at one of the Sanders rallies, organizers hope there will be even more.
The goal of the events is to "call attention to support the Vermont Senator has received throughout the primary process and push for long-term changes in the way that the Democratic Party nominates candidates," the report noted.
Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton is currently leading in the delegate count, and will likely be nominated by the party at the convention in Philadelphia.
