TOKYO (Sputnik) — Last week, a 32-year-old US Marine veteran was arrested on suspicion of stabbing and strangling a 20-year-old Japanese woman near the US Kadena Air Base on Okinawa.
Abe "will strongly demand that the U.S. side take effective and convincing measures to prevent incidents and accidents involving U.S. servicemen and others," Suga told journalists at a news conference, as quoted by the Japan Times.
Suga said the prime minister "felt indignation" and offered sympathy to the family of the murdered woman.
Abe is expected to speak with the US president this week on the sidelines the two-day Group of Seven summit in Mie Prefecture on May 26-27.
