No Threat to Russia From Montenegro's Accession to NATO - Official

GROZNY (Russia), (Sputnik) — Last week, NATO foreign ministers signed an accession protocol for Montenegro, paving the way for the tiny alpine nation’s entry to the military bloc. It still needs the approval of national parliaments to make Montenegro a full member.

"It is their personal decision, personal choice. They decide whatever they decide. If they believe it benefits their national security — then so be it. If not — not," Lukyanov said ahead of a high-level international security meeting in southern Russia.

"I have not heard anything proving that Montenegro's accession to NATO will significantly strengthen the Alliance's military-political potential," Lukyanov stressed.
