"We [European Union] cannot adequately cope with an influx of millions of refugees," Juncker said, while making an opening speech at the Conference of the Speakers of the European Union Parliaments in Luxembourg.
He added that Turkey was as interested in the refugee swap deal as much as the European Union was, and reiterated the importance of the agreement implementation for the fastest possible resolution of the refugee crisis.
In March, Brussels and Ankara agreed on a deal under which Turkey pledged to take back all undocumented migrants who arrive in the European Union through its territory in exchange for Syrian refugees accommodated in Turkey, on a one-for-one basis. In return, the bloc pledged to accelerate Turkey's EU accession bid and introduce a visa-free regime between Turkey and the Schengen Area.
