Armenia, EU Continue Negotiations on New Partnership Agreement
23:24 GMT 26.05.2016 (Updated: 11:54 GMT 09.02.2023) Yerevan and the European Union continue negotiating the signing of a new partnership agreement, Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandyan said.
YEREVAN (Sputnik) — He added that he recently met with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and other top officials and that both sides are "pleased" with the three stages of the negotiations and will continue the process soon.
"Armenia and the European Union continue their talks in the set course for the signing of a new framework partnership agreement," Nalbandyan told Armenia's parliament on Thursday.
According to the foreign minister, there are no specific deadlines, but the Armenian side is doing its utmost to conclude the negotiations as soon as possible.
Yerevan was due to sign an association agreement with Brussels along with a free trade deal in late 2013, but several months ahead of the agreements' conclusion Armenia decided to join the Eurasian Customs Union.
Nevertheless, the European Council authorized the European Commission in October 2015 to initiate talks on a new comprehensive agreement with Armenia that would replace the existing partnership agreement between Yerevan and Brussels.
